This new design focuses on ride quality and durability, not just weight and price. Another design feature worth mentioning is the Apex rims angulated spoke hole drilling. By drilling the spoke holes at an angle Cascade Racing Designs has eliminated stress points near the nipple/spoke interface allowing you to more easily bring your wheels up to tension with less stress on the rims, spokes, and nipples.
